Maggie Brown Middle School is an alternative middle school program of the Coweta County School System. The program provides a structured learning environment for students in grades 6 -8 who have had problems in the traditional middle school setting. Students are provided with a supportive environment where they can improve academically, behaviorally, and socially through various strategic methods. This alternative model is aimed at helping students improve academically and behaviorally to transition back to their base school. Most students have been placed at MBMS through a disciplinary process of the school system. Students must adhere to strict behavior, academic and attendance guidelines to remain in the program. Transitioning students successfully back to their base school is the goal.
The school is housed in the former Maggie Brown Primary School in Newnan, Georgia, with six classrooms and an office suite. The small size of the facility and the maximum student base of 72 students work to create a safe atmosphere with plenty of teacher support. Faculty and staff at Maggie Brown are comprised of certified English, mathematics, science, history, and special education teachers and principal. Classified staff includes paraprofessionals and secretaries.
